Trends in Overall Activity: The number of visits and hospitalizations has risen slightly among children under 2 years of age (+6%, or +1,365 visits; +10%, or +348 hospitalizations), but remains stable among children aged 2 to 14 and adults.
Trends in Major ConditionsThe conditions most frequently seen in emergency departments are generally stable across all age groups. However, there has been a 23% increase in visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age.
Trends in seasonal indicators: Among children under 2 years of age, emergency department visits for bronchiolitis continue to rise (+23%, or +538 visits; 2,907 weekly visits), accompanied by an increase in hospitalizations (+27%, or +214 hospitalizations; 1,010 weekly hospitalizations). National case numbers are very close to those of previous years, though regional trends vary. In the Île-de-France region, the outbreak began earlier and is more intense than in other regions, with the peak likely having occurred during the past week and case numbers significantly higher than in 2012 and 2013. In the West region, the epidemic is in an upward phase, whereas in the southern regions of France, case numbers are still low, with the peak expected in late December. Emergency department visits for influenza/influenza-like illness are on the rise among children under 2 years of age (+40%, or +13 visits) and among adults under 75 years of age (+13%, or +26 visits), though case numbers remain low, in line with figures from previous years. An earlier increase is observed in the North and Southeast regions.Emergency department visits for other seasonal indicators have remained generally stable over the past week. Notably, among adults over 75 years of age, there has been a slight increase in visits for acute bronchitis and ENT infections. However, the number of visits is higher than in 2012 and 2013 for asthma, pneumonia, and ENT infections.
