Summary

  • During week 47 (November 20–26, 2017), overall activity and hospitalizations following visits to the emergency department increased among children under 15 years of age (+8%, +7,060 visits, +8%, +687 hospitalizations). Among adults, activity remained stable.

  • For seasonal conditions, there was a sharp increase in visits for bronchiolitis (+46%, +1,193 visits), asthma (+23%, +150 visits), and acute bronchitis (+31%, +59 visits) among children under 2 years of age. This trend is also observed among adults for acute bronchitis (16%, +160 visits) and asthma (+9%, +91 visits).Among children under 15 and adults, there has been an increase in isolated fever (+17%, +400 visits, and +12%, +110 visits), gastroenteritis (+9%, +248 visits and +10%, +112 visits), and ENT conditions (+21%, +1,901 visits and +8%, +227 visits).

  • Among the most common conditions, the vast majority are seasonal illnesses, particularly among children under 2 years of age and those aged 2–14. There has also been an increase in cases of pneumonia among those aged 2–14 (+31%, +130 visits) and those over 75 (+5%, +79 visits). Finally, visits for chest pain and dyspnea/respiratory failure have increased by 9% among those over 75.
