Summary
In week 47 (November 19–25), total activity and hospitalizations following emergency department visits increased among children under 2 years of age (+14.5%, or +3,535 visits and +574 hospitalizations) and remained stable among children aged 2–14 and adults.
The main increases noted over the past week concern respiratory conditions: - among children under 2 years of age: bronchiolitis +61% and asthma attacks +27%. A bronchiolitis epidemic has been declared in 7 regions, and 6 regions are in the pre-epidemic phase; - among children under 15 years of age: pneumonia +27%, ENT conditions +25%, influenza +26%, and bronchitis +22%; - among adults: influenza +29%, acute bronchitis (+9%), as well as asthma attacks (+14%, low number of cases) and dyspnea/respiratory failure (+9%) among those aged 75 and older.
We also note among children an increase in visits for vomiting among 2- to 14-year-olds (+10%) and infectious conjunctivitis among children under 2 years of age (+41.5%). All indicators are at levels consistent with those of previous years, with the exception of visits for asthma among children (slightly higher than in the previous two years).
