Key Points
In Week 43 (October 24–30, 2022), emergency room visits and hospitalizations continued to rise among children under 2 years of age (up 12%, or 3,887 visits, and up 17%, or 748 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable or declined in other age groups.
Seasonal respiratory indicators continued to rise among children, particularly those under 2 years of age, with visit and hospitalization rates following visits often higher than those observed in previous years, and began to rise again among adults, mainly those aged 75 and older.
We thus observe a rise in visits for bronchiolitis, which is continuing at a more pronounced rate than in S42, and for cough in children under 2 years of age (+47% and +18%, or +2,063 and +117 visits, respectively), asthma attacks among children under 2 and those aged 75 or older (+20% and +36%, or +223 and +25 visits, respectively), acute bronchitis in children and those aged 75 and older (+17% and +25%, or +130 and +62 visits, respectively), influenza/flu-like illness in all age groups (+19%, or +93 visits), pneumonia in children and those aged 15–74 (+15% and +10%, or +187 and +164 visits, respectively) and ENT conditions in children under 2 and adults (+10% and +10%, or +759 and +401 visits). Only visits for suspected COVID-19 are down across all age groups (-25%, or -1,216 visits across all ages).
Among other indicators, we note an increase in visits for isolated fever among children under 2 and those aged 75 and older (+5% and +29%, or +95 and +79 visits), with visit rates higher than those observed in previous years among children, conjunctivitis among children under 2 and adults (+23% and +18%, or +67 and +110 visits), and urinary tract infections among those aged 15–74 (+10%, or +334 visits).
