Key Points

  • In Week 20 (May 15–21, 2023), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

  • The main indicators and most common conditions in emergency departments showed little change in Week 20, with moderate to low volumes. Among children, there was an increase in visits:

    • for respiratory conditions: ENT conditions (+12%, or +782 visits) among those under 15 and asthma among 2- to 14-year-olds (+36%, or +383 visits).

    • for conjunctivitis among 2- to 14-year-olds (+29%, or +114 visits), and, among children under 2, for isolated fever (+9%, or +131 visits), and, with low numbers, allergies (+12%) and general malaise (+12%).

  • Among adults, there was an increase in visits for insect bites (+11%, or +36 visits), and for asthma and conjunctivitis among those aged 15–74 (+9%, with +77 and +67 visits, respectively). Among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase in visits for vomiting (+23%, or +56 visits) and abdominal pain (+9%, or +158 visits).
