Summary

  • In week 19 of 2017 (May 8–14), emergency department visits for all causes and hospitalizations increased among children aged 2–14 (+8% and 7%, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.

  • Among seasonal conditions, for children under 2 years of age, there was a continued increase in visits for pneumonia (+12%) and general malaise (+9%). Among 2- to 14-year-olds, there was an increase in visits for allergies (+12%) and a continued rise in visits for general malaise (+25%), asthma (+16%), bronchitis (+10%), and ENT disorders (+8%).Among adults, with the exception of a slight increase in allergies among those aged 15–74 (+6%) and gastroenteritis among those aged 75 and older, seasonal conditions are stable or declining.

  • Apart from the seasonal conditions mentioned above, among children under 15, there was an increase in visits for abdominal pain (+6%), and among 2- to 14-year-olds, a rise in visits for foreign bodies (+11%).Among children and adults under 75, there was an increase in visits for trauma (+8%), which was more pronounced among those aged 2–14, and among those aged 15–74, a continued, albeit slight, increase in visits for anxiety disorders (+4%).
