Key Points
In Week 10 (March 4–10, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits rose slightly among children aged 2–14 (+8%, or +4,260 visits, and +5%, or +276 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.
Seasonal respiratory indicators continued to decline across all age groups, most notably among those under 15, particularly visits for influenza/flu-like illness (-33% across all ages, or -927 visits) and for suspected COVID-19 infection (-24% across all ages, or -88 visits). Despite a decrease across all age groups as well, visits for pneumonia remained at levels higher than in previous years.
Among other indicators, a few showed a slight increase, notably general malaise among children under 15 (+10%, or +68 visits); among 2- to 14-year-olds: trauma (+19%, or +3,042 visits), asthma attacks (+14%, or +163 visits), and vomiting (+6%, or +48 visits); and among adults aged 15–74: gastroenteritis and abdominal pain (up 8% and 4%, respectively, or +106 and +443 visits); and, in small numbers, dehydration (+14%, or +10 visits).
