Key Points
In Week 22 (May 29–June 4, 2023), emergency room visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Due to weather conditions (high temperatures and thunderstorms) and the presence of allergens (pollen, grasses), an increase in visits was observed among both children and adults for:
asthma: +54% across all ages, or +1,742 visits—more pronounced among adults (+80%), at levels higher than in previous years;
allergies: +26%, or +688 visits;
conjunctivitis: +24%, or +455 visits, which remain at a very high level;
heatstroke: +52%, or +52 visits (151 visits in S22 versus 99 in S21 and 24 in S20).
Finally, visits for insect bites were also on the rise among adults (+30%, or +127 visits).
Specifically among children, there was also a slight increase in visits for ENT conditions (+10% among 2- to 14-year-olds, or +442 visits), isolated fever (+13%, or +347 visits), vomiting (+12%, or +132 visits), gastroenteritis (+14%, or +218 visits), as well as chickenpox (+26%, or +108 visits) and skin conditions among children under 2 years old (+21%, or +53 visits).
