Summary

In Week 25 (June 21–27, 2021), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits were down across all age groups (by 3%, or 13,308 visits, and by 5%, or 3,410 hospitalizations, respectively).

Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups, as well as their share of total activity, continued to decline across all age groups (-35%), with 894 visits and a 0.3% share of activity, respectively (vs. 1,366 visits and 0.4% in Week 24). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups remains stable at 50% (vs. 49% in Week 24). At the regional level, visits for suspected COVID-19 are down in all regions except Réunion (+17%, or +13 visits). Since the start of surveillance on February 24, 2020, 501,368 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.

After three consecutive weeks of increases, all seasonal indicators are showing a marked decline across all age groups, with observed levels similar to or even lower than those of 2019–2020. The only increases exceeding +10% are observed, albeit with small sample sizes, for general malaise among children under 2 years of age (+19%, or +33 visits) and neurological conditions among those aged 75 and older (+16%, or +138 visits).
