Summary

In Week 25 (June 17–23, 2019), total activity and hospitalizations following emergency department visits increased among children aged 2–14 (up 8%, or 5,284 visits, and up 6%, or 302 hospitalizations, respectively) and among those aged 15 and older (up 3%, or 9,178 visits, and up 3%, or 1,799 hospitalizations, respectively), while remaining stable among children under 2 years of age.

Over the past week, there has been an increase in visits for:

  • isolated fever (+15%, or +612 visits), insect bites (+32%, or +403 visits), and meningitis (+42%, or +22 visits) across all age groups;

  • chickenpox (+10%, or +38 visits) among children aged 2–14;

  • dehydration (+23%, or +66 visits), malaise (+10%, or +874 visits), and allergies (+7%, or +133 visits) among adults.

Among the most common conditions, the main trend is an increase in trauma across all age groups (+8.5%, or +7,649 visits). Visits for renal colic are also on the rise among those aged 15–74 (+9%).
