Key Points

  • In Week 26 (June 26, 2023), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following visits were down among children (ages 2–14, for visits only) and stable in other age groups.

  • Among small sample sizes, there was an increase in visits among children under 2 years old for trauma (+6%, or +149 visits), among those aged 15–74 for vomiting (+6%, or +57 visits), and for viral meningitis (+27%, or +10 visits)—at levels higher than those observed since the COVID period but comparable to pre-COVID years. We also note, in small sample sizes, an increase among those aged 75 and older for allergies (+13%, or +17 visits) and conjunctivitis (+37%, or +23 visits), which, despite the decline in visits that began a month ago, remains at a level slightly higher than those observed in previous years among children.

  • Among other indicators, we note the continued rise in visits for insect bites among children under 2 years old (+18%, or +14 visits) and those aged 75 and older (+29%, or +15 visits), at levels comparable to previous years.
