OSCOUR National Newsletter, July 19, 2016
Summary
Emergency room visits are on the rise among adults and, to a lesser extent, among children under 2 years of age, while they are declining among children aged 2–14. Hospitalizations following emergency room visits are stable or declining, particularly among children.
Among seasonal indicators, there has been an increase in visits for gastroenteritis and allergies across all age groups, as well as for asthma and bites/contact with venomous animals among adults. These last two indicators are declining among children.
Emergency room visits for viral meningitis have decreased over the past week; the peak of the outbreak appears to have passed.
