Key Points

  • In Week 28 (July 10–16, 2023), emergency department visits rose slightly among children under 2 years of age (+6%, or 1,187 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+5%, or 12,306 visits), and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

  • In line with weather conditions, we observe an increase across all age groups in visits for dehydration (+36%, or +128 visits) and insect bites (+34%, or +480 visits)—more pronounced among adults—and heatstroke (+26%, or +56 visits)—more pronounced among those aged 15–74—with levels comparable to previous years. Across all age groups, there was also an increase in visits for chickenpox (+42%, or +193 visits) and conjunctivitis (+19%, or +225 visits), with moderate increases and a return to levels close to those of previous years.

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for ENT conditions among children under 2 years old (+12%, or +327 visits) and among those aged 15–74 (+25%, or +785 visits). There was also an increase in visits for allergies among those aged 2–14 (+10%, or +65 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+20%, or +403 visits), and for skin infections among those aged 2–14 (+11%, or +37 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+8%, or +355 visits).

  • Among children, in moderate numbers, there was an increase in visits for urinary tract infections (+11%, or +37 visits) and dermatological conditions (+12%, or +37 visits) among those under 2 years of age.

  • Finally, among those aged 15–74, there was an increase in visits for viral meningitis (+23%, or +11 visits), which remain at levels higher than in previous years across all age groups.
