Key Points
In Week 04 (January 22–28), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits increased among children (up 14%, or 12,156 visits, and up 6%, or 531 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable among adults.
Seasonal respiratory indicators were mostly on the rise across all age groups.
Visits for influenza/flu-like illness and upper respiratory tract infections increased at comparable rates across age groups (47% and 19% respectively for all ages, or 3,552 and 2,552 visits). These increases were accompanied by a rise in visits for isolated fever (+16% across all ages, or +903 visits), asthma attacks in children (+22%, or +478 visits), and acute bronchitis in those aged 15–74 (+17%, or +268 visits).
Among other indicators, across all age groups, there was an increase in visits for suicide attempts (+11%, or +160 visits), which remained at levels comparable to the previous two years.
Finally, among children, there was an increase in visits for trauma (+9%, or +1,708 visits), abdominal pain (+8%, or +281 visits), malaise (+10%, or +82 visits), and conjunctivitis (+10%, or +35 visits).
