Key Points

  • In Week 03 (January 15–21), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following visits increased among children (up 13% and 12%, respectively, or 9,862 visits and 450 hospitalizations) and remained stable among adults.

  • Seasonal respiratory indicators are rising again among children, primarily for ENT infections (+30%, or 1,322 visits among 2- to 14-year-olds) and asthma (+48%, or 692 visits). Only visits for influenza/influenza-like illness are rising across all age groups, and significantly so (+95% among children and +44% among adults, representing 1,645 and 1,249 additional visits, respectively). Treatments for pneumonia are now increasing only among children under 2 years of age in S03 (+19%, or +47 treatments) but remain at a level significantly higher than in previous years among children.

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever across all age groups (+23%, or 1,010 visits).

  • Among children, following a decline in S02, there was an increase in visits for gastrointestinal symptoms (gastroenteritis, vomiting, abdominal pain) and general malaise (+15%, or +103 visits).

  • Among adults, the increases recorded concern visits for suicide attempts (+5%, or +45 visits among those aged 15–44) and trauma (+9%, or +4,647 visits among those aged 15–74), as well as, among those aged 75 and older, for chest pain (+10%, or +139 visits).
