Summary

In Week 2 of 2019 (January 7–13), the first week after the Christmas break, visits and hospitalizations were up among children aged 2–14 (+17%, or +8,770 visits), down among children under 2 (-23%, or -7,737 visits), and stable among adults.

Over the past week, with the exception of influenza, all seasonal respiratory illnesses were down across all age groups. The main highlights for this week include increases in activity for: - Influenza/flu-like illness in all age groups except among those aged 15–74. The increase is highest among children aged 2–14 at +57% (328 visits); it does not exceed +20% among children under 2 and adults aged 75 and older,- Gastroenteritis and vomiting among those under 15 years old (+8%, or +280 visits, and +9%, or +119 visits, respectively) and abdominal pain among 2- to 14-year-olds only (+33%, or +1,060 visits),- General malaise among 2- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 74-year-olds (+33%, or +121 visits, and +11%, or +567 visits, respectively) and isolated fever among 2- to 14-year-olds only (+17%, or +236 visits).

Among the 10 most common conditions, there was primarily an increase in visits for trauma (+54%, or +6,287 visits) and neurological disorders (+30%, or +200 visits) among children aged 2–14.
