Summary

In Week 5 (January 29–February 4), all-cause emergency department visits decreased among children under 2 years of age (-791 visits) and among adults (-5,097 visits); however, they remained stable among children aged 2–14. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits were stable among children under 2 years of age, increased among children aged 2–14 (+4%, +235 hospitalizations), and decreased among adults (-736 hospitalizations).

Emergency department activity related to seasonal illnesses is stable or even declining among children and adults. Visits for influenza/flu-like illness are down across all age groups, as are hospitalizations following these visits. However, influenza/flu-like illness accounts for nearly 4% of coded activity among children versus 1% among adults.

Visits for gastroenteritis are stable among children and declining among adults. In contrast, hospitalizations following visits are on the rise among children under 2 years of age and those aged 2–14 (up 7% and 12%, respectively).

In week 5, there were 61 visits for measles (+26%), including 40 visits (+5%) in Nouvelle-Aquitaine (NA). The number of visits is rising among children and declining among adults.
