Summary

In Week 8 (February 19–25), all-cause emergency department visits remained stable among children under 2 years of age, decreased among those aged 2–14 years (-8.3%), and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable.

Among seasonal conditions, there was an increase in visits for bronchitis (+13.5%, or +298 visits) and pneumonia (+7.6%, or +333 visits) among adults. The share of activity for these two indicators in total adult activity was higher than in the previous two years. Visits for influenza/flu-like illness among adults have stabilized, following an increase observed the previous week. Visits for gastroenteritis have also increased among children under 2 years of age (+8%, or +181 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+12%, or +139 visits). Among non-specific indicators, there was an increase in visits for conjunctivitis (+9%, or +61 visits) among adults and for asthma (+14.6%, or +59 visits) and allergies (+17%, or +25 visits) among children under 2 years of age.

Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for dermatological issues (+13.5%, or +26 visits) among children under 2 years of age. All of the most common conditions are declining among 2- to 14-year-olds and remain stable among adults.
