Summary
Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for all causes continue to decline among children (-7.7% in visits and -3.6% in hospitalizations) and remain stable among adults.
The decline in emergency department visits for influenza continues across all age groups (-43% across all ages). The proportion of hospitalizations among influenza-related visits, however, has risen slightly (15% vs. 13% the previous week) and remains higher than in the two previous years.
Other seasonal illnesses are stable or declining across all age groups. Of note is a stabilization in visits for gastroenteritis among children, despite an overall decline in activity. There is also a slight increase in the proportion of hospitalizations following emergency department visits for isolated fever (36% vs. 34% the previous week).
Also worth noting among children is a slight increase in visits for allergies (+5%) and for conjunctivitis among children under 2 years of age (+6%). Among adults, an increase in visits is observed for trauma (+5%) and for urinary tract infections (+6.5%).
