Summary

In week 04 (January 25–31, 2021), there was a moderate increase (compared to the previous 3 weeks) in visits among children (+3%, or +1,785 visits) and stabilization among adults. Hospitalizations following visits remained stable across all age groups.

In Week 04, visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups were stable (+1%), as was their share of total activity (7,396 visits and a 3% share of activity in W04 vs. 7,312 visits and 3% in W03), following two consecutive weeks of increases. However, by age group, these visits are rising moderately among those aged 15–74 (+3%, or +124 visits) and stable in other age groups. Suspected COVID-19 remains the 6th most common diagnosis among those aged 15–74 and the 3rd most common among those aged 75 and older. The proportion of hospitalizations following a visit across all age groups remains stable at 58%. At the regional level, visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in five metropolitan regions: Occitanie (+14%, or +74 visits), Pays-de-la-Loire (+16%, or +52 visits), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+9%, or +51 visits), and Centre-Val-de-Loire (+13%, or +28 visits). There has also been an increase in visits in Mayotte (+189%, or +36 visits). Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 348,454 emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.

Among seasonal illnesses, there has been an increase in visits for respiratory illnesses among children, with moderate numbers. Of particular note is the more pronounced increase in visits (+270 visits, or +34%) and hospitalizations (+105 hospitalizations, or +41%) following visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age.
