OSCOUR National Newsletter, December 18, 2018

Summary

In week 50 (December 10–16), the number of visits and hospitalizations following visits remained stable for both children and adults.

Most seasonal respiratory conditions remained stable. However, there were some moderate increases in visits for: - acute bronchitis in children (+7%, or +56 visits), pneumonia in adults aged 15–74 (+9%, or +137 visits), and ENT conditions in people aged 75 and older (+25%, or +25 visits), - influenza/flu-like illness across all age groups (+24%, or +135 visits); note that these diagnoses account for only 0.3% of all-cause activity, compared to approximately 1% during the same period in 2016 and 2017.

Also noteworthy is the increase in visits for isolated fever and infectious conjunctivitis among 2- to 14-year-olds (respectively +9%, or +117 visits, and +12%, or +32 visits).

All indicators are at levels close to or below those of the previous two years.
