Key Points

In Week 30 (July 26–August 1, 2021), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations declined slightly among children (-6%, or 5,075 fewer visits, and -8%, or 554 fewer hospitalizations) and remained stable among adults. Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups continued to rise for the fifth consecutive week, though at a less pronounced rate than in Week 29 (+45% in Week 30 vs. +93% in Week 29). In total, there were 5,730 visits (+1,771 visits), with the proportion of activity also on the rise (1.8% vs. 1.2% in Week 29). This increase is observed among children (+59%, or +98 visits) and adults (+44%, or +1,673 visits). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups has risen to 39% (vs. 33% in Week 29). At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in all regions except French Guiana and Mayotte. The largest increases, in absolute numbers, are observed in PACA (+69%, or +523 visits), Île-de-France (+39%, or +282 visits), Occitanie (+42%, or +256 visits), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+37%, or +179 visits), Guadeloupe (+134%, or +115 visits), and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+33%, or +102 visits). Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 515,374 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded. After an increase in most seasonal indicators in week 29, these are stable or declining across all age groups in week 30, at levels consistent with those of previous years. Notably, there was a decrease in cases of hyperthermia and heatstroke (-78% across all ages vs. +151% in week 29) and insect bites (-28% across all ages vs. +48% in week 29).
