Summary
During week 34 (August 21–27, 2017), visits to emergency departments were slightly down among children under 2 years of age (-7%) and stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations were stable across all age groups.
Visits for most seasonal conditions were stable or declining, with the exception of emergency room visits: - among children: for heat-related conditions (+32%, or +17 visits) and general malaise among 2- to 14-year-olds, and for burns (+8%, or +11 visits) among children under 2; - among adults: for general malaise (+9%) among 15- to 74-year-olds and for isolated fever (+6%) among those aged 75 and older.
Among the most common conditions, we note: - In children: an increase in visits for bronchiolitis (+11%, or +15 visits) and for gastroenteritis for the second consecutive week (+8%) in children under 2 years of age, as well as for abdominal pain in children aged 2–14, - among adults: an increase in visits for renal colic (+8%) among those aged 15–74 and for cardiac decompensation (+5%) among those aged 75 and older.
