In week 33 (August 12–18, 2019), overall emergency department activity remained stable across all age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits decreased among those under 15 years of age (-5%) and remained stable among those 15 years of age and older.

Over the past week, all non-specific and seasonal indicators were stable or declining across all age groups, with the exception of visits for:

  • asthma among those aged 2–14 (+14%, or +47 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+10%, or +65 visits);

  • dehydration (+43%, or +16 visits) among 2- to 14-year-olds and conjunctivitis (+19%, or +155 visits) among those aged 15 and older.

Among the most common conditions, there was a slight increase in visits for:

  • gastroenteritis (+7%) and abdominal pain (+5%) among children under 15;

  • skin infections among children under 2 years old (+22%) and foreign bodies (+8%) among 2- to 14-year-olds;

  • ENT infections (+13%) among those aged 15–74 and chest pain (+5%) among those aged 75 and older.
