Key Points

In Week 30 (July 24–30, 2023), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations declined among children (-8.2%, or 5,875 fewer visits) and, to a lesser extent, among adults (-2.9%, or 8,863 fewer visits).

Across all age groups, and particularly among adults, there was an increase in visits—though the numbers remain low—for suspected COVID-19 infection (+26%, or +149 visits).

We also note, among people aged 75 and older, an increase in visits for abdominal pain (+8%, or +261 visits) and for chest pain (+7%, or +90 visits).

All other seasonal and non-specific indicators are decreasing across all age groups, particularly for heatstroke (-61%, or -119 visits across all ages). Emergency department visits for viral meningitis also decreased by 22% (or -27 visits), but the numbers remain significantly higher than those of the past three years.
