Summary

In Week 17 (April 22–28, 2019), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations decreased among children under 2 years of age (down 4%, or 1,033 visits, and down 11%, or 385 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.

Over the past week, we observed mainly an increase in visits for insect bites (+21%, or +116 visits) and chickenpox (+11%, or +93 visits) across all age groups, as well as an increase for allergies (+9%, or +133 visits) and conjunctivitis (+7%, or +59 visits) among those aged 15–74

Among the most common conditions, visits for abdominal pain are on the rise among children (+8%) and adults aged 15–74 (+5%). There was also an increase in dermatological (+10%) and neurological (+10%) conditions among children, and in ENT infections (+6%), urinary tract infections (+6%), and anxiety disorders (+7%) among those aged 15–74.
