Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, September 13, 2016.

Summary

Nationally, the mortality observed for week 34 remains close to the expected number of deaths, not significantly higher than expected, both across all age groups and among people aged 75 and older. Regionally, several regions are at the upper limits of mortality fluctuations. However, given the ongoing consolidation of mortality data, the trend in mortality for this week will be clarified in the coming weeks. The observed mortality during week 35 (August 29 to September 4) returns to levels comparable to those expected for this period, for all ages and for all age groups (Figures 1 to 3). Given the usual delays in data transmission, the mortality figures observed for this past week are still incomplete. Caution is therefore advised when interpreting these observations. In week 36 (August 29 to September 4), 1,171 deaths were recorded via electronic certification; however, it is not possible to assess trends relative to previous weeks due to the low coverage rate for this source.
