Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, February 12, 2019.

Summary

Nationally, all-cause mortality across all age groups has risen gradually since the start of the year and is higher than in the first five weeks of 2019 (December 31 to February 3). The excess mortality primarily affects people aged 85 and older, and to a lesser extent those aged 15–64 (Figure 3). The two regions most affected over the entire period are Île-de-France and Occitanie.Across all age groups, excess mortality for the first four weeks of 2019 (weeks for which all-cause mortality data are pre-consolidated) is estimated at 9%, or 4,500 additional deaths (an estimate extrapolated to the whole of France based on data from a sample of 3,000 municipalities). These observations should be interpreted with caution, as the data are not yet consolidated due to the usual transmission delays.

According to data from electronic certification, 2,443 deaths were recorded in week 06 (February 3–10, 2019).
