Summary
Nationally, a moderate excess of all-cause deaths was observed in week 29 (July 19–25) and week 32 (August 9–15, 2021), affecting specifically adults aged 65–84. Nationwide figures appear to be returning to their usual range of fluctuation in week 33 (August 16–22).
In mainland France, a moderate excess of all-cause deaths was observed in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Brittany, Occitanie, and Centre-Val-de-Loire in week 32, in Corsica in weeks 31 and 32, and in PACA in weeks 29, 30, and 32. In the overseas territories, the number of deaths was significantly higher than expected in weeks 30 to 32 in Martinique, with a decline observed in week 32, and in Guadeloupe in weeks 31 to 33 (week 33 is incomplete but already shows an excess). There is also an increase in the number of deaths in Martinique based on electronic death certificate data between weeks 30 and 32, which continues into week 33. In Guadeloupe, the number of electronic deaths from all causes appears to be stabilizing at a high level in week 33.
