Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, August 16, 2016.
Summary
At the national and regional levels, in weeks 30 and 31, mortality trends returned to the fluctuations typically observed for this time of year.In week 29 (July 18–24, 2016), the trend of higher-than-expected mortality was confirmed across all age groups, particularly among people aged 65–84 and those aged 85 and older (Figures 1–3). However, this observation varies by region.A higher-than-expected mortality trend is observed in 5 regions (Brittany, Centre-Val de Loire, Pays-de-la-Loire, Hauts-de-France, and Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine), and is more pronounced in Brittany and Hauts-de-France. During week 29, a heat wave was observed. Given the usual delays in data transmission and the timing of school vacations and public holidays, the mortality figures reported are still incomplete. A comprehensive report is expected by the end of the summer.
