Why was this study conducted, and what are its objectives?
The ÉVANE study aims to gather information on how parents experience parenthood during the first two years of their child’s life. These findings will provide detailed insights into the environments (work, family, housing, etc.) in which parents of young children live and how these environments influence their experiences and parenting practices.
Becoming a parent is an experience that can vary greatly from one person to another, which is why a large number of parents will be surveyed to reflect the diversity of feelings about their new role.
Who is eligible to participate in the Évane study?
Fathers and mothers living with a child between the ages of 0 and 2 who reside in mainland France and who have been randomly selected from among households receiving benefits from the Cnaf.
Study Procedure
Selected participants will be notified by mail and email and invited to complete an online questionnaire that takes an average of 40 minutes. Data collection is being conducted by the polling firm Ipsos. The study’s dedicated website, https://www.etude-evane.fr/, provides useful information for all selected participants.
Santé publique France would like to thank all selected participants in advance for their cooperation and the time they will devote to the survey. If you do not wish to be included in the random selection, you may indicate this by reviewing the collective information notice and the study’s legal notices.
What will the results be used for?
The initial results of the Évane study will be published in 2025. They will provide a better understanding of the needs of parents of young children. This knowledge will inform the development of initiatives for parents of young children and help guide public policy.
Regulatory Framework for the Évane Study
Santé publique France is responsible for the data processing carried out for the purposes of this study in the public interest.

A mandatory study
The Evane survey has been awarded the mandatory label of public interest and statistical quality by the Public Statistics Label Committee, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 51-711 of June 7, 1951, on the obligation, coordination, and confidentiality of statistics.
