Effective Strategies for Remote Health Prevention and Support: A Literature Review.
This report provides an overview of the scientific evidence regarding effective remote interventions in health prevention and promotion (telephone-based and internet-based programs). This review was conducted using a specific methodology for selecting and analyzing the scientific literature and classifying the interventions identified. The review identifies a large number of effective or promising remote interventions in the field of health, which fall into several categories of intervention. Interventions involving telephone interviews—often structured and based on a theoretical model—have been shown to be effective in smoking cessation and nutrition. Computer-based interventions, often delivered via the internet, can be effective in areas such as reducing alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drug use; increasing physical activity; promoting healthy sexual behaviors; reducing mental health disorders; and supporting individuals with chronic diseases. Finally, we can highlight the relatively recent development of interventions via text messages or apps on cell phones or smartphones, whose effectiveness has not yet been extensively studied but which appear promising, particularly in the areas of smoking cessation and nutrition. Knowledge of these effective interventions should help inform discussions about the practices of professionals in this field in France.
