Sex education classes are increasingly addressing topics such as romantic relationships, interpersonal connections, and consent, even though the institutions where these classes are held require that the curriculum primarily focus on the risks associated with sexual activity (unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections). The greatest challenge is changing the normative view that many children and adolescents hold regarding sexuality.
