Monitoring of suicide mortality among working farmers.
An initial cross-sectional study conducted in 2007, 2008, and 2009 among farm owners and farm workers revealed an excess of suicide deaths among male farm owners compared to the general population. This excess mortality is particularly pronounced among men aged 45 to 64 and in two sectors of the cattle industry (dairy and beef cattle). Updating the data and continuing the analyses based on detailed occupational characteristics will allow for a more detailed study of suicide mortality in this population.
