The Mental Health of Healthcare Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The influx of COVID-19 patients into hospitals has strained the healthcare system and placed a heavy burden on healthcare professionals. They have risen to the challenge, but their mental health has been severely affected, as international studies have shown. We must now promote measures to prevent the deterioration of healthcare workers’ mental health in stressful environments such as those caused by COVID-19: practicing compassionate leadership, strengthening communication between management and teams, providing transparent and concise information about the challenges they face, involving healthcare workers in the decision-making process, and fostering communication and solidarity within teams.
