Evaluation of early warning criteria for the detection and investigation of community-acquired salmonellosis outbreaks

Community outbreaks of non-typhoid Salmonella infections can spread rapidly and have serious consequences for human health. The detection of these outbreaks and the issuance of alerts rely on the surveillance system of the National Reference Center for Salmonella and Shigella (CNR), which performs serotyping of Salmonella strains sent by biological and medical analysis laboratories (LABMs). When an outbreak alert is issued by the CNR, the National Public Health Network (RNSP) conducts epidemiological investigations to identify factors contributing to the outbreak and recommend appropriate measures. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of decision-making criteria for detecting and investigating community-based Salmonella outbreaks in France. (R.A.)
