Surveillance of bacterial resistance to antibiotics is part of the policy to combat healthcare-associated infections in healthcare facilities. It is one of the measures recommended by the National Program for the Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infections (Propias) and the interministerial roadmap for controlling antibiotic resistance. This document presents the main results of surveillance for multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB) based on data collected in 2018 as part of the BMR-Raisin network, which has since been replaced by the national Spares initiative (Surveillance and Prevention of Antibiotic Resistance in Healthcare Facilities).
