Analysis of the audience reached during Flash Test Week 2015. Southern Corsica, June 2015
In 2015, a week-long rapid HIV testing campaign (Flash Test) was organized by the Regional Health Agencies of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Corsica, as well as the Regional Coordination Groups for the Fight Against Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection (Corevih) for Paca East and Paca West-Corsica. A questionnaire administered to those tested made it possible to analyze the population reached by this initiative. An analysis was thus conducted for the first time in Southern Corsica, as the initiative could not be held in Northern Corsica. The analysis covered 92 individuals. The population was predominantly male and relatively young, with 92% of individuals born in France. Men who have sex with men accounted for 3% of participants. Injecting drug users and transgender individuals were not represented. This initiative provided an opportunity for 41% of participants to undergo their first HIV test. No participant tested positive for HIV. While it is difficult to conclude that this initiative adds value to the existing testing system, it appears that the first Flash Test 2015 intervention in Southern Corsica likely contributed to raising public awareness of HIV testing and rapid tests. Nevertheless, the absence of the populations most at risk for HIV among the public reached by this operation raises questions about participant targeting and the suitability of this type of intervention for the context of the South Corsica department. With a view to a future initiative, it appears essential to expand this effort to the entire region, with a particular focus on areas far from existing screening facilities.
