Public Health Monitoring in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Bulletin of July 9, 2025.

Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

Fourteen locally transmitted cases of chikungunya have already been identified in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region:

  • 12 linked to the outbreak in Salon-de-Provence in the Bouches-du-Rhône;

  • 2 linked to the outbreak in La Crau in the Var.

Heat Wave

  • A heat wave occurred in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region from June 27 to July 6, 2025, with all departments placed under an orange heat wave alert (Hautes-Alpes under a yellow alert).

  • Analysis of regional emergency care utilization during the episode indicates an increase in activity for the iCanicule indicator for SOS Médecins associations (all ages) and hospital emergency departments (all ages and 75 and older), followed by a decline over the last 3 days.

Fire in Les Pennes Mirabeau and Marseille (July 8, 2025)

  • Very moderate short-term health impact on emergency care use for July 8: 10 visits for carbon monoxide poisoning and 5 visits for toxic effects of gas and smoke fumes were recorded in the emergency departments of the study area. Despite the drop in temperatures, visits related to feeling unwell remained high

Pollen exposure, which may pose an allergy risk

  • In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, the pollen index is at a low to moderate level, primarily due to grass pollen. Allergy-related activity at SOS Médecins clinics remains stable. This is the final update for the season.
