Public Health Bulletin on HIV and STIs in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. December 2021.
Key Points
Participation in the LaboVIH survey and accurate reporting of new HIV diagnoses via e-DO by clinicians and laboratory technicians are essential for producing reliable surveillance indicators. In the region in 2020, due to the health crisis, participation in the LaboVIH survey and the completeness of the DO were lower than in previous years, undermining the reliability of the surveillance results.
PACA remains the second-largest metropolitan region in terms of HIV testing activity, but an average positivity rate highlights the need to better target at-risk populations.
The number of new HIV diagnoses per million inhabitants, which remained stable between 2015 and 2018 in the Paca region, decreased in 2019 and 2020, partly due to low participation in LaboVIH and the health crisis.
New HIV diagnoses continue to decline among people born in France and are rising sharply among MSM born abroad.
The number of AIDS cases per million inhabitants has been steadily decreasing since 2010 in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region. In 2020, the proportion of heterosexual individuals increased, while that of MSM decreased, bringing the distribution closer to the national profile.
