Surveillance of Occupational Diseases in the Pays de la Loire Region: Results for the Two-Week Periods from 2020 to 2022

This regional report presents data from the MCP (occupational diseases) biweekly surveys conducted between 2020 and 2022 in the Pays de la Loire region and places them in context with trends in reported cases observed in the region since 2008. During the 2020–2022 two-week periods, one in five return-to-work or pre-return-to-work visits resulted in an OHD report. This rate is 32% for on-demand visits, 10% for periodic follow-up visits, and 5% for pre-employment visits. In addition to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and cases of psychological distress—including depression and occupational burnout, which represent the two main categories of conditions reported in MCP—cases of cardiovascular diseases (stroke, atrial fibrillation, hypertension), one case of prostate cancer, and a thyroid condition. The reporting rates for occupational diseases have increased since 2017. This increase is observed regardless of the context in which the employee was seen (return to work after a leave of absence, periodic follow-up, new hire, or visit upon request) and applies to both musculoskeletal disorders and cases of psychological distress. The number of employees who initiated a claim for recognition of their condition under an occupational disease classification was, in 2020–2022 as in previous years, relatively low (two out of ten reported illnesses were subject to such a classification).
