Health Monitoring in Mayotte. Bulletin of April 10, 2026.
Key Points
Chikungunya
119 cases of chikungunya were reported in Week 14 in Mayotte, representing a 25% increase compared to Week 13 (93 cases), with an average of approximately 100 cases per week over the past 4 weeks, indicating that the virus is still actively circulating in the region;
31 cases required hospitalization, nearly three-quarters of which (23 cases) occurred in the last two weeks;
Reports of suspected chikungunya cases to the SAMU dispatch center doubled in weeks 13 and 14 compared to week 11 and remain at a high level.
Leptospirosis
Since the beginning of 2026, 85 cases of leptospirosis have already been recorded, including 12 hospitalizations, one of which was admitted to the intensive care unit;
Rainfall since the beginning of 2026, although slightly lower than in 2025 during the same period, could promote the environmental persistence of leptospires and increase the risk of transmission in the coming weeks.
Bronchiolitis
Despite still-high positivity rates, virological and hospital indicators confirm the decline in the bronchiolitis epidemic since the peak in Week 9, with a marked decrease in emergency department visits and hospitalizations in Week 14.
