Key Points

• Vector-borne diseases: Since May 1, 2014, the departments of Aude, Gard, Hérault, and Pyrénées-Orientales have been subject to enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue; Currently, 25 reports of clinically suggestive cases of chikungunya or dengue have been received, of which 13 have been confirmed as chikungunya and 1 as dengue. All of these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area: these are referred to as imported cases. To date, no indigenous cases have been reported within our region.

• Hospital and medical activity in the region: overall activity at the SOS Médecins associations in Nîmes and Perpignan remains somewhat high for this time of year; in some facilities, emergency department activity is slightly higher than in previous years during the same period.

• Heat wave monitoring: all 5 departments remain at the seasonal alert level.
