Overview of overall activity (emergency room visits and SOS Médecins calls):
In the Gard department, thresholds were exceeded late last week (total first-time visits, hospitalizations, and visits by children under 1 year of age). In the Hérault department, the number of emergency room visits by adults over 75 also increased, though not to an alarming extent. In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the same trend was observed for hospitalizations, as well as for visits by children under 1 year of age, for whom a threshold was exceeded on Sunday, January 19. Although this week, numbers are once again below statistical thresholds, the total number of first-time visits remains high in certain departments.
Overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics is stable but slightly lower than what was observed during the same period last year. Activity involving those under 15 is trending upward, while activity involving those 75 and older is decreasing slightly.
Monitoring of seasonal illnesses:
gastroenteritis: the outbreak continues; visits to emergency rooms and calls to SOS Médecins for this illness remain relatively frequent, and two new outbreaks of gastroenteritis in senior care facilities were reported this week, bringing the total to 11 facility-based outbreaks;
bronchiolitis: the number of cases recorded in emergency departments is decreasing for the second consecutive week, signaling the end of the epidemic in the region,
Influenza: Influenza activity remains low both in the region and across France; there is no ongoing epidemic.
