Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of February 19, 2015.
Key Points
Influenza: The peak of the epidemic likely occurred during week 07 of 2015, but incidence in community practice remains high. In Languedoc-Roussillon, the Sentinelle network estimates the incidence at 553 per 100,000 inhabitants, representing nearly 15,000 new flu cases seen in outpatient care during week 07. - The epidemic is dominated by the A(H3N2) virus. - Older adults are more severely affected. - The number of hospitalizations continues to rise, especially among people aged 65 and older. - Diagnoses of pneumonia are following the same trend, particularly among those over 75 years of age, making it the second leading cause of hospitalization in this population. - There are numerous clusters of acute respiratory infections in elderly care facilities. - Excess mortality from all causes continues to rise, primarily among people aged 75 and older. The proportion of these deaths attributable to influenza is unknown.
Bronchiolitis: The outbreak is slowly coming to an end, both regionally and nationally.
Gastroenteritis: The outbreak is subsiding in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, though there are still clusters of cases in facilities housing the elderly, often linked to norovirus.
