Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of December 19, 2013.
Key Points
Bronchiolitis: high activity; the number of new cases continues to rise, a trend reflected in both emergency department data and SOS Médecins data; it should be noted that nearly half of the reported cases (about 30) were hospitalized after visiting the emergency department.
Gastroenteritis: activity on the rise, particularly at SOS Médecins in Nîmes and Perpignan, where activity related to this illness is higher than that observed in the previous two years for the same period.
Influenza: activity remains low, with a few sporadic cases.
Reminder regarding vector-borne diseases: surveillance of vector-borne diseases ended on November 30. The enhanced surveillance system for suspected cases of dengue and chikungunya among travelers returning from areas where these viruses circulate has been lifted. Rapid reporting forms should therefore no longer be sent to the ARS until next season. However, (biologically) confirmed cases of chikungunya and dengue must still be reported to the ARS.
