Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of August 30, 2012

Key Points:

  • Hospital activity. Last week’s indicators appear to be approaching the values seen in week 33, but due to IT issues, the usual statistical methods could not be applied to the data from the SRVA this week.

  • Summer surveillance. In week 34, the number of emergency department visits for heat-related conditions (hyperthermia, heatstroke, dehydration, or hyponatremia) continued to rise slightly, increasing from 27 to 36 visits across the 11 emergency departments in the sample. However, case numbers remain low and within the expected range for this time of year.

  • Vector-borne disease surveillance. Over the past 7 days, 1 imported dengue case was confirmed among the 7 suspected cases reported in Hérault and Gard. To date, a total of 7 dengue cases and 2 chikungunya cases have been confirmed in these two departments, all imported; no locally acquired cases have been detected.

  • Non-specific surveillance.

    • Gastroenteritis: low activity

    • Asthma: low activity.
