Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of August 14, 2014.
Key Points
Vector-borne diseases: Since the start of enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue, 100 reports of clinically suggestive cases of either disease have been received by the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Health Agency (ARS). Of these, 46 were confirmed as chikungunya and 8 as dengue. All of these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area (imported cases). To date, no locally acquired cases have been reported in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Hospital and medical activity in the region: There is sustained activity at the hospital, as seen every year, linked to the influx of tourists in the region. For SOS Médecin, activity is slightly higher than in other years during this same period, but remains stable. The main diagnoses are gastroenteritis and ENT infections.
