Key Points

• Vector-borne diseases: 108 reports of suspected cases of chikungunya and/or dengue have been received since May 1, 2015. Four imported cases of dengue and one imported case of chikungunya have been confirmed (all acquired during travel to an endemic area). For this season, no locally acquired cases have been diagnosed to date in the region.

• Hospital and medical activity in the region: following very high activity during weeks 2015-28 and 29 (linked to the long weekend of July 14), SOS Médecins activity during weeks 2015-30 through 32 returned to a more typical level for the period. Emergency room activity is fairly stable from week to week and remains slightly higher than in previous years during comparable periods.

• Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS): After a prolonged period of high temperatures that did not trigger a Level 3 activation of the National Heat Wave Plan, temperatures have dropped. Last week’s data showed a plateau in the number of emergency room visits for dehydration, hyponatremia, and hyperthermia. This week, approximately 30 emergency room visits for these reasons were recorded in the region, half of which involved people aged 75 or older.
