From August 18, 2023, to August 23, 2023, and in light of the current heat wave, Météo-France has issued a red alert for 10 departments (covering 85% of the region’s resident population) and an orange alert for 3 departments (covering 15.0% of the region’s resident population). For today (August 24), Météo-France proposed yesterday at 4:00 PM to maintain the red alert for 10 departments (Aude, Aveyron, Gard, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Hérault, Lot, Lozère, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne) and the orange alert for the other 3 departments (Ariège, Hautes-Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Orientales). As an update, on today’s 6 a.m. map, Météo-France downgraded the departments of Aude and Hérault to an orange alert.

An increase between August 18, 2023, and August 23, 2023, in the number and proportion of (i) SOS Médecins calls for heat-related emergencies (primarily among adults aged 15 and older), (ii) emergency room visits due to iCanicule (all age groups affected since yesterday), and (iii) hospitalizations due to iCanicule (primarily among those aged 75 and older).
